DETROIT & WINDSOR — Transportation authorities on both sides of the Detroit River confirmed the successful completion of final intelligent freight inspection systems along the multi-billion dollar Gordie Howe International Bridge corridor.
The new international crossing introduces 36 automated commercial customs inspection lanes equipped with next-generation non-intrusive radiographic imaging, designed to process over 10,000 heavy commercial trucks daily between Ontario manufacturing clusters and the US industrial Midwest.
Automotive logistics operators in Ontario and Michigan have lauded the completion, projecting that dedicated pre-cleared FAST lanes will reduce cross-border supply chain transit friction by nearly 45%, eliminating multi-hour staging queues historically experienced at the legacy Ambassador Bridge.
The facility also incorporates North America's first dedicated high-capacity heavy commercial electric vehicle (EV) charging plaza, supporting zero-emission cross-border logistics fleets operating under USMCA zero-tariff frameworks.
